Art In Nature Workshops

Immerse yourself in nature, connect with other artists, and explore your creative process in stunning natural settings in Bali and beyond!

Papillon is an environmental scientist, artist and musician who offers 1 day workshops, 2-3 day art camps, and ‘mini-residencies’ at varying locations within Bali (and sometimes other locations in Indonesia and SE Asia).

The workshops are suitable for people at any place in their art journey - from complete novices to those with established practices. The focus is on a free and playful exploration of your own personal creative process. You do not need any experience in any particular type of art to join in and be rewarded by these workshops.

There is no expectation that you will produce a great artwork in this workshop, or indeed that you need to produce any ‘artwork’ at all. You may not even think of yourself as an artist. The only expectation is that you will come, be playful, and open yourself to discovering new things about your own creativity.

• immerse yourself in a stunning natural environment

• connect deeply with yourself and with the environment

• listen to what the earth has to tell you in that place, and enter into a creative dialogue as you respond

• nurture, renew and invigorate your art practice by exploring your creative process in a new and inspiring location

• be enriched and inspired by others in a relaxed, fun and supportive group setting

Workshops, art camps and mini residencies are open to creatives of all kinds, whether you work in traditional media (drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles etc) or new digital media, or performance, music and sound. Usually the more diverse the group the richer and more stimulating the workshops are for everyone.

If you already practice art this is a great way to get out of your comfort zone and explore new ways to express your creativity in a safe, supportive and inspiring setting. The focus is on your own personal creative process, and what arises in you as you respond to place and the content of the workshop. Artists may also like to consider attending an art camp or mini residency to allow opportunities to go deeper and produce new work.

Participants are free to engage with the facilitated group parts of the program as much or as little as they like. You may choose to create and play collaboratively with others in the group, or be independent. It’s entirely up to you.

What previous participants have said about the workshops:

“Great job Papillon! The art in nature workshop was brilliant and brought out so much insight inspiration and deep connection for me and all the participants - I was particularly inspired by the smart way you set up the first grounding exercise to take us back in 10 year phase by phase to when we were children free from adult judgment and criticism so we could just be and create in the moment. As I said at the time you are an inspiring teacher 🙏🏼”

Papillon’s deftly balanced workshop gave us just enough structure and support and just enough freedom resulting in us all happily and easily tapping into unexpected artistic currents within us. The result was a surprisingly diverse collection of artworks executed in a friendly and convivial atmosphere. Fun and deep!

This event is impressive. It has greatly inspired my creativity and deconstructed my view of art.
